A verse in Ed sheeran's Perfect sang “cause we were just kids when we fell in love". Sincerely speaking, teenage love is beautiful. If there's anything I really enjoy listening to, it's my friends telling me about their present or previous love stories, whether good or bad or their worst or best relationship experiences. After all, not all love stories have happy endings.
But the thing is when it comes to topics like this I'm always going to be a fence sitter. The topic "Teenage Relationships" is a topic with so many controversies, arguments and the likes.
Well, today's LOR is an unfiltered conversation between myself and a friend of mine on what He thinks about teenage relationships. I hope you have a good time reading it!❤
Q1: A short description about yourself?
My name is Nzube. I'm a guy (Most random description ever😂)
Q2: In your definition or terms, what is a teenage relationship?
Omo teenage relationships or dating are like for me oh, like a way of testing waters sho get? I feel its an important part of growing mentally as a teenager because you create scenarios that help discover yourself, set healthy and clear boundaries with people; on the friendship level and relationship level. And eventually if you get to paint the perfect picture you could make it last forever.
Q3: Would you encourage teenage relationships?
I would encourage teenage relationships and also discourage it, I sound so indecisive rn, well I’m saying this because I support the definition I gave above and I also discourage it because I feel you’re lowkey wasting time actually, because at times like 9/10 times teenage relationships lead to nothing in the long run when you actually look at it, we’re just young boys and girls looking for attention and searching for things we don’t actually need at this point of our life, which leads to massive problems, so to avoid all these problems, fash relationships and focus on your school, career, dream and so on with Sky daddy in the center of it all.
Q4: Why do think most African parents are against teenage relationships?
African parents are against it because they were once teenagers like us and had all these feelings, and made the same mistakes and often when they realize it, sometimes, too late. So they try their best to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes like them and that’s why we see them all strict about it.
Q5: What are some of the disadvantages or advantages of teenage relationships?
The advantages that teenage relationships have are few, like it helps you to know your boundaries and all, its serves as a lesson to people after making mistakes in the relationships, but some kind mumu people would make mistakes and keep repeating them. God abegg! The disadvantages are a lot, like wasting time when you should be readingggg or doing sum productive but you’re sneaking out doing links, and it’s a mad distraction from your school and goals sho get.
Q6: Is the idea of "spec" realistic? Why or why not?
Heck yeah! Specs are realistic, take this for an example; when you’re buying a house, you choose what you like abi? Yes you do. So back to this spec issue, a guy or a girl you like might not be attractive to another person based on looks or personality or most times based on both of em but to you they’re golden and a catch for you sho get, people like what they like and dislike what they don’t.
Q7: How would you describe your ideal partner?
My ideal partner? First, you have to like Wizkid because why not? And personality, your vibe is key then looks and I might sound selective or how people say it idk but statureeee and you have to be a woman of God too most important of them all.
Q8: What are your thoughts on social media and its impact on teenage relationships?
Social media affects relationships badly. This is because of what they see other people do for their partners and be like “ yo, why can’t you do what your mates are doing for their girls” stuff like that, lets not forget bad advice too, that one is on a whole different level entirely.
Q9: Do you believe in long distance relationships? Why or why not?
I do not believe in long distance relationships because, who are you deceiving? You’re playing with each other. That’s what I feel though, I’ve had experiences with it and it wasn’t nice, but it wasn’t her oh it was mee.
Q10: How do you when it's time to end a relationship?
Well, you can decide to end a relationship when you guys don’t feel yourselves anymore, like problems coming up everyday, every week sef. But depends though.
Q11: What are some of the past challenges you've encountered in past relationships and how were you able to overcome them?
I don’t recall any past challenges, but I do know a way to solve and end problems its not always foolproof but it works a lot, and that is communicacy (communication). Lack of communicacy can end a 2 year relationship in just 2 mins or even seconds, communication can solve problems like magic, some people especially me jump into conclusions anyhow so when you’re mature enough to talk things out and settle little differences, your relationship would last longer that emm, idk abeg I just know it’ll last long.
Q12: Is dating your Friend's ex wrong? Why or why not?
I don’t see anything wrong, I feel your friend and the person weren’t compatible for long so maybe you guys might be, I no too send sha na wetin dey my mind I go do.
Q13: Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not
Yes, I do believe in love at first sight, because some people are unique and you might be compelled to fall In love just by looking at them and you might even fall harder when you get to know them more. that aura they bring could make you feel like that, idk how to explain it, its just crazyyy.
Q14: What advice would you give to teenagers in a relationship?
I would advice other teenagers to have fun, create memories because we get older everyday, and remember just because other people do relationships doesn’t mean you must join them. Most people feel fine without a relationship, like Adaeze. And remember if you make mistakes in relationships try your best to learn from them so you wouldn’t repeat it in future with whoever becomes your wife. Remember to always focus on your goal.
My reaction after this interview was😂
But my opinion on this topic will be
Corinthians 10:31 — Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God
Ecclesiastes 3:1 —To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven
Finally, Philippians 4:8 — Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Thank youuuu for staying with me on this series, love you loadsss🤭💕
